A hostel in Mussoorie like Bunkotel can be reached easily since Mussoorie is very old hill station it is very well connected by road, rail and air. This guide will enable you to reach Mussoorie if you travelling with either of the three modes.

By Road

Mussoorie Bus stand is at the moment just besides Dehradun railway station. So if you come out by train and exit the railway station take a left and carry on the road. Till about 150 meters and you will see Mussoorie bus stand. The frequency to Mussoorie of these buses is every 45 minutes. Mussoorie Mall Road has two ends and Buses reach either of the stations which are located their. To avoid trouble,You should while booking your hotel ask the reservation team about the location of the hotel and take the bus accordingly. The two bus stands are called Library (Because of a public library close by) and Picture Palace (Because of a landmark picture hall, since closed but the name has stuck). Picture Palace bus stand is sometime called Masonic Lodge as well (close vicinity to town Masonic hall). Last revised the bus ticket for per person was INR 56 (as of 2020)

Taxi

Mussoorie can be reached by taxi as well. The rates are pre-defined and are possible to hire the entire taxi or on per seat basis. The taxi stand is just by the Mussoorie Bus Stand near the railway station. The fare for an entire taxi (5 seats) for Mussoorie is INR 1070 (Last Revised). The taxi union keeps on revising the rates and the rates keep on increasing every year (testing times, I know). These rates are generally displayed on a board outside their office.

By Air

Mussoorie is well connected by flights. The airport called Jolly Grant (In the name of the village it is located). It is situated close to Rishikesh but is called Dehradun Airport out for some reason. It is connected by major carriers like Indigo, Jet and Air India, Spice Jet etc. You can hire taxis just outside the airport and reach Mussoorie. The taxis are pre-payed. All major airlines like Jet Airways, Spicejet, JetKonnect, AirIndia have daily flights to Dehradun from Delhi. There is a direct flight from Lucknow to Delhi as well. Mussoorie is around 67 km away from the Airport.

By Train

Mussoorie is well connected by trains from all major destinations of India. Trains usually reach Dehradun in the morning. Dehradun is the terminal station and last major station just before Dehradun is Haridwar. People from Haridwar can also take taxi or buses and reach Mussoorie directly. The major trains that reach Dehradun are Howrah express, link express, Upasana express, Nizamuddin Delhi A/C special, Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi.

While in Mussoorie

The mall is closed for vehicles from 4 P.M -10 P.M. So you have no option to roam in Mall Road during these hours. It is not that difficult since the weather is always pleasant. Entry fees to the mall are INR 150 for vehicles (for a day) it keeps on changing every now and then.

By rickshaw

On the section of the mall road, between Library Chowk to Jhulaghar, you can take a rickshaw. Jhulaghar is the city centre of the mall road. This stretch of mall road is flat and hence it is easy for rickshaw pullers to manoeuvre their rickshaws. The rickshaw takes INR 50 (last revised) per person for this stretch.

A healthy advice, if you can, you should cover most of the stretch on foot. The weather and the beauty are always suitable for it. If you cant then Taxis are your best option. These taxis can be fetched by both Library and Picture Palace Bus Stands. They usually charge a fixed price for local sightseeing. Of late,motorcycle/scooters on hire have also started plying in Mussoorie and are easily available.
